Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at Southcrest Baptist Church, 3801 S Loop 289, Lubbock, Texas, for former Artesia resident Betty J. Edwards.
Mrs. Edwards, 85, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 in Lubbock.
Dr. David Wilson will officiate at the services with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main Street, Lubbock.
Betty was born January 20, 1924 in Muleshoe, Texas to Henry and Ima King. She lived in Lubbock most of her life. She was a homemaker and worked for St. Paul Insurance for a number of years.
On December 20, 1941, she married J. Wayland Edwards, Sr. in Clovis, N.M. Rev. Edwards was the founding pastor of Southcrest Baptist Church and served at First Baptist Church in Artesia from 1964 until his death on May 23, 1971.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Cox and husband Wes of Lubbock; two sons, James Jim Edwards, Jr. and wife Ruth of Arlington, Texas and Dennis Edwards of Lubbock; a brother, Henry King of Cary, North Carolina; a sister, Mary Nell Ashton of Elk Grove, California; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Southcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 3801 S Loop 289, Lubbock, TX 79423.
