Bessie Major

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Bessie Major, 1703 S. 21st Street, Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Major, 70, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her home.
Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services.

Mrs. Major was born August 6, 1940 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma the daughter of William M. Lewis and Emma Fanning Lewis.

On June 20, 1959 she was married to Don Major in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a longtime Artesia resident.

She was an Arts Crafts instructor the Door of Opportunity for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Lewis, sister Wanda Lewis, and grandson Tommy Sparrow.

Survivors include her husband Don Major of the family home son Tim Major of Denver, Colorado daughter Donna Houston and husband David of Artesia sister Betty Hatch and husband Don of Roswell, N.M. grandchildren Lindsay Sparrow, Samantha Major, Jennifer Major, Mike Major, Conner Houston, Tori Walker, and Kaci Major greatgrandchildren Jacob Sparrow, Darren Orosco, and Cash Strickland.
