Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Mar. 18, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church for Bernice George of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. George, 89, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia, New Mexico.
Fr. Maurice Geldert will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons including Larry Noble, Greg Noble, Aaron George, Josh Lucy, Cole George, and Michael Norris.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Thursday from 2 - 6 p.m.
Mrs. George was born January 11, 1922 in Ennis, Texas; the daughter of Marlin Durbin and Maude (Whitfill) Durbin.
On March 26, 1938 she was married to Lester C. George, Sr. in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a longtime Artesia resident after moving here as a child. He preceded her in death May 5, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter Phyllis Kafton; son Lester C. "Skip" George, Jr.; brothers Orville "Rooster" Durbin, and Averil Durbin; sister Maxine Durbin; and aunt Tatter Whitfill.
Bernice was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and loved her family.
Survivors include her son Steve George and wife Shelley of Artesia; daughters Mary Noble of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Glenda Doughty of Artesia, Anne Waller and husband Glenn of Artesia, and Vicki Hash and husband Whit of Cloudcroft, N.M.; sisters Carrie Snyder of Lubbock, Texas, Jo Holloway of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and Marge Ellis of Okmulgee; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
