Funeral services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Dexter, N.M. for Barney Elbert Green, Jr., of Hagerman, New Mexico.
Mr. Green, 92, died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home.
Rev. Stephen Deutsch will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Trevor Gray, Travis Gray, Alton Munson, Justin Munson, Cody Munson, and Tim Pollard.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Wednesday from 10:00 12:00 p.m.
Barney was born November 6, 1921 in Dawson, Texas the son of Barney E. Green and Lucille Rushing Green. He moved with his family to East Grand Plains at the age of three then came to Artesia about 10 years later. He served his country in the United States Navy and then returned to the Pecos Valley. On October 30, 1947 he was married to Muriel Roach in Carlsbad, N.M. He purchased his first farm in Hagerman in 1952.
Barney was a farmer and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Hagerman. He has been a strong supporter of the Hagerman community and schools. He served on the FFA alumni council, supporting the Chaves County 4H program, coaching Little League baseball and serving as Rainbow dad for the local order of Rainbow for Girls. He was honored as Oustanding Conservation Farmer for the HagermanDexter NRCD in 1975 and selected as Hagerman Citizen of the year in 2003.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.
Survivors include Wife of 67 years Muriel Roach Green of the family home daughter Pam Angell of Lovington, N.M. son Harold Green and wife Gambra of Artesia, N.M. grandchildren Ross Angell of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Bill Angell and wife Kendra of Lovington, Taylor Green and wife Kara of Roswell, N.M., and Meghan Green of Ft. Worth, Texas greatgrandchildren Sarah, Ryan, Trippton, and Paxtyn Angell and a sister Jodie Keyes of Ruidoso, N.M.
The family is extremely grateful to Gentiva Hospice peronnel, who graciously ministered in the last weeks of his life, Dr. Fundador Adajar who always made Barney feel like much more than just a patient, Marie Magby his muchloved longterm care provider, and his host of faithful friends.
