Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hermosa Church of Christ for Barbara Shelton of Lake Arthur, New Mexico.
Mrs. Shelton, 76, died Wednesday, July 9, at her home.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary.
Michael Joiner will officiate at the services. Honorary Pallbearers are Tracy Fields, Jacob Fields, Justin Mahan, Thomas Wilson and Charlie Williams.
Barbara was born June 27, 1938 in Cottonwood, New Mexico the daughter of Joseph Kersey Funk and Mary Tempe Southard Funk. She was a lifelong area resident.
On October 22, 1961 she was married to Billy Gene Shelton in Artesia, NM. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2005.
She was a bank teller for First National Bank for 22 years, Office Manager at Stevenson Roach and coowner of Zia Chem Dry. She was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, an avid reader and a Lake Arthur Little League volunteer.
Barbara was blessed to be a part of a very large family, one of eight children, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Barbara held family gatherings for holidays or just because, any reason to have her family together. Her family was the most important thing in her life and a tremendous joy. Barbara could be tough, but fair, when one or several of the kids got into trouble, but had an unconditional love for all of them. Her strength came from her faith in God and her unwavering love of family.
She was preceded in death by parents, brothers Jimmy, Jake and Fred Funk.
Survivors include her daughters Jennifer Fields and husband Tracy of Lake Arthur and Susan Moreno of Midland, Texas brother Garland Funk and wife Darla of Albuquerque, NM sisters Wanda Whatley of Cloudcroft, NM, Joan Grassie of Lake Arthur and Bettie Redden and husband E.H. of Carlsbad, NM sisterinlaw Verna Funk of Artesia grandchildren Justin Mahan, Laci Wilson, Morgan Moreno, Julia and Jacob Fields greatgrandchildren Darian, Canaan and Krelli Mahan and Dalan and Ian Wilson.
