Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Trinity Temple Assembly for Avelino Villa Contreras of Artesia.
Mr. Contreras, 94, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home.
Pastor Bobby Argo will officiate at the service with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sonya Soto, Brenda Ramirez, Stepanie Molina, Lisa Rodriguez, Sarah Goff, Tiffany Sherwood, Olaya Merrifield and Suzie Cano. Honorary Pallbearers are Sam and Gregoria Herrera.
Visitation will be at Terpening and Son Mortuary Monday, June 2, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.
Avelino was born March 23, 1920 in Durango, Mexico the son of Victor Contreras and Anita Villa Contreras. He came to Artesia in 1957 from Pecos, Texas.
On Dec. 22, 1942 he was married to Beatriz Gomez in Mexico. They came to Artesia in 1957 from Pecos, Texas. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents sister Josephina Duenas and two greatgrandchildren.
Avelino was a farm laborer, a member of Ancla dela Fe, a grandparent at Headstart and enjoyed making baskets and fishing.
Survivors include his daughters Ann C. Franco of Cottonwood, Judy Chavarria of Artesia, Rachel Tesillo of Artesia, Minnie Rodriguez of Artesia and Sally Delgado of Artesia sons Sammy Contreras of Ontario, CA, Victor Contreras of Artesia, Israel Contreras of Artesia and Irvey Cano of Artesia brothers Margarito Contreras of Hobbs, N.M., Alfredo Contreras of Loving, N.M., and Sammy Contreras of California 31 grandchildren, 71 greatgrandchildren and 25 greatgreatgrandchildren.
