Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church for Arthur J. Bartley, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Bartley, 81, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Paul Neuberger will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dean Robinson, Warren Nell, Mike Phipps, Cub Cuthbertson, Henry Hafliger, and Harold Friesner. Family members Nick Garcia and Kendal Hatfield, currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom, have been named as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Bartley was born January 13, 1922 in Draffin, Kentucky; the son of Bryan Bartley and Molly Wilson Bartley. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On October 7, 1945 he was married to Emma Herman in Carlisle, Pa. They came to the Artesia area in 1947. He was retired public school teacher and administrator. He taught at Loco Hills, Lomita, and Yucca schools; was principal at Roselawn, Grand Heights and Loco Hills; and served as Director of Federal Programs for Artesia Public Schools. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother. Survivors include his wife Emma Bartley of the family home; daughters Cindy Bartley of Cloudcroft, N.M. and Keiko Sekiguchi of Japan; grandchildren Nick Garcia of San Diego, Calif., Angela Hatfield of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Teruhiko Sekiguchi and Kumiko Sekiguchi of Japan; and three great-grandchildren.
