Ardath Carter

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 20, at Terpening Son Chapel for Ardath Faye Carter, 906 S. 6th St., Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Carter, 94, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at Heartland Nursing Center.

Steve Ormord will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Monday .

Ardath was born March 26, 1917 in Republic County, Kansas the daughter of George Van Winkle and Nettie Cozine Van Winkle. She came to Artesia in 1940 from Chester, Nebraska.

On April 3, 1939 she was married to Royal C. Butts in Bellville, Kansas. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1987. On September 8, 1989 she was married to Warren Carter in Artesia.

She was a homemaker. a member of First United Methodist Church, and active with the Artesia Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Barbara Kilough, 4 brothers and a sister.

Survivors include son Michael Butts and wife Sue of Artesia grandchildren Roy Richards and wife Darlene of Artesia, Lee Roy Richards and wife Susan of Artesia, Michael Butts and wife Kyla of Farmington, NM, Stephen Butts and wife Leslie of Artesia, and Kristin Butts of San Antonio, Texas a brother a sister 9 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandchild.
