Arby Melton

August 1, 1932 — February 24, 2015

Memorial services are scheduled at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 10, at West Main Baptist Church for Arby "Pete" Melton of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Melton, 82, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona, Florida. Pete was doing what he wanted to do and where he wanted to be -- at the races.

Belton Mathews will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place in Florida.

Pete was born August 1, 1932 in Muskogee, Oklahoma; the son of Buford Melton and Ollie (Henson) Melton.

He served his country in the United States Air Force.

Pete was a longtime Artesia resident before moving to California. On June 26, 1982 he was married to Dortha Bowen in Carson City, Nevada. They moved to Artesia in May of 2009.

In California Pete was a heavy equipment operator and the owner/operator P&M Backhoe. He was currently employed with Mack Energy, Inc. He was a member and strong supporter of the Quarterback Club and sponsored many Bulldogs. He was also the secretary of one bowling league in Artesia. In his spare time he enjoyed following Nascar, bowling, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and hanging out with friends.

Survivors include his wife Dortha Melton of the family home; sons Michael Melton of Fresno California, and Leslie Leon Bowen of Artesia; daughters Michelle Melton of Fresno California, and Karen Denise Pendleton of Layton, Utah; grandsons Jacob Bowen, and Shane Pendleton; and cousin Armond Karr of Artesia.
