Services are scheduled at 12:00 P.M. Friday, October 22, at West Main Baptist Church in Artesia for Antonio Varelas Miranda, Hope, New Mexico. Mr. Varelas, 63, died Saturday, October 16, 2004 in Artesia, New Mexico. Pastor Abelardo Bolanos will officiate at the services with burial at Upper Hope Cemetery in Hope. Pallbearers will be his sons. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday. Mr. Varelas was born December 2, 1940 in Durango, Mexico; the son of Angel Varelas and Maria de los Angeles Miranda Varelas. In 1960 he was married to Maria Melendez in Durango. He came to Hope in 1976 from Mexico. He was a rancher and farmer; and was a member of the Baptist denomination. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a daughter. Survivors include his wife Maria de Jesus Varelas of Hope; three daughters: Monserrat Varelas and husband Felipe Martinez of Denver, Colo., Nancy Varelas of Portales, N.M., and Maribel Varelas and husband Alonso Calamaco of Portales; seven sons: Catarino Varelas and wife Guadalupe of Hope, Diego Varelas and wife Francisca of California, Felipe Varelas and wife Oralia of Artesia, Cleto Varelas and wife Clara of Portales, Jose Varelas and wife Gregoria of Portales, Angel Varelas of Mexico, and Francisco Varelas of Mexico; four sisters: Aurelia Varelas of Durango, Mexico, Matilde Varelas of Durango, Isabel Varelas of Durango, and Carmela Varelas of Durango; two brothers: Juan Varelas of Phoenix, Ariz., and Feliciano Varelas of Durango; and 15 grandchildren: Gabriel Varelas, Jonathan Varelas, Leticia Varelas, Cinthia Varelas, Mayra Varelas, Alejandro Varelas, Mario Martinez, Luz Viviana Varelas, Monica A. Varelas, Jose Luis Varelas, Ryan Martinez, Daniel Varelas, Reyna Varelas, Josue Varelas, and Miguel Varelas.
