Anna Walton

Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, at Lake Arthur Cemetery, Lake Arthur, N.M., for Anna Frances Walton, 608 S. 4th St., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Walton, 99, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Wayne Bedingfield and Rick Smith will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Walton was born March 22, 1907 in Clinton, Kentucky; the daughter of John Mace Jackson and Lizzie Graham Jackson. On Aug. 14, 1930 she was married to George N. Walton in Carlsbad, NM. She came to Artesia in 1997. He preceded her in death January 4, 1997. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She taught school in Alaska for one year and then returned to Artesia accepting a position as a bookkeeper for Jackson-Bolton Chevrolet, where her father was one of the partners. She became the Preachers Wife after her husband was ordained as a pastor for the Missionary Baptist Church. They moved to California in the late 1940s and spent over forty years starting and sustaining churches. They left many wonderful friends when they returned to Artesia in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and six sisters. Survivors include nephew and longtime caretaker John Dowell and wife Brenda of Artesia; many nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Artesia Good Samaritan Center or charity of choice.
