Anna Derrick

Anna Mary (Lattion) Derrick was born on May 24, 1921, in Hagerman, New Mexico, to Frank E. Lattion and Rosalie Darioly. Her father's family moved to New Mexico from Switzerland in about 1894. Frank returned to Switzerland with his mother in 1913 where he married Rosalie. They traveled by the Queen Mary to the United States and set up housekeeping under the Caprock and began their family in the first house in the area with indoor plumbing. The Lattion children were in order, Micheline (Mickey), Raymond, Eda (Edith), Francis (Frankie), Anna Mary, Gladys and Rose. They mother passed away during the difficult birth of their eighth child, Geraldine Rosalie who soon passed away as well as an infant. Anna Mary's only surviving siblings are Mickey who is 100 years old and lives in Carlsbad, NM and Frankie who is 96 years old and resides in Cliff, NM.

Anna Mary married Curly Derrick on May 31, 1940. She spent her life as a dedicated, hard-working rancher's wife. She was a dedicated homemaker and Mother and as organized a person as you will ever meet. She was preceded in death by her husband Curley in April of 2004.

She is survived by their son Jimmy who was born in 1943 and Donald who was born in 1945. They first lived on the Derrick Ranch east of Hagerman and then purchased a ranch near Mayhill, NM in 1951 where they lived until retirement. Mother worked outside the home at Thomason's Mercantile in Mayhill for several years prior to working at the Otero County Electric Cooperative in Cloudcroft, NM, where she worked 18 years before retiring. She and Curley also resided in Artesia and Carlsbad after retiring. She was a long time member of Churches of Christ in Mayhill, Artesia and Carlsbad.

Anna Mary passed from this life on Friday, March 13, 2015 having lived 93 years, 9 months and 13 days. She spent her last days cared for at Good Samaritan, Betty Dare in Alamogordo where her sons Jimmy and Donald visited her several times a week. Her memorial service will be held at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ in Artesia at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. Services will be officiated by Matthew Clark, Grand Son-in-Law and Minister of the Grants Church of Christ, and Eddy Coleman, Minister of the Mayhill, Church of Christ. Pallbearers will be Brent Derrick, Ryan Derrick, Chad Merchant, Joel Stewart, Derrick Merchant, Trey Merchant, Jordan Merchant and Keegan Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Aiden Derrick, Kolton Derrick, and Malachi Merchant. Services are under direction of Terpening & Sons Mortuary in Artesia.

She is survived by her son Jimmy and wife Maxine of Cloudcroft NM, her son Donald and wife Janet of Mayhill, NM.
She is also survived by five grandchildren: Donell Merchant and husband Chad of Lubbock Texas; Loree Stewart and husband Joel of Grants, NM; Brent Derrick and wife Lily of Pearland, Texas; Ryan Derrick and wife Kelley of Memphis, Tennessee; Jana Clark and Husband Matthew of Grants, New Mexico

She is survived by thirteen great grandchildren: Derrick Merchant and wife Tasha, of Lubbock Texas and Trey Merchant and wife Corie of Lubbock and Jordan Merchant of Lubbock; Kaylee Stewart of Lubbock (LCU), Kami and Keegan Stewart of Grants, NM; Katarina and Aiden Derrick of Pearland, Texas; Ryley and Kolton Derrick of Memphis, TN.; Jadyn, Chloe and Kyler Clark, of Grants, NM.


One Great-great Grandchild: Malachi Merchant and two expected twin Great-great Grandsons Madden and Britton Merchant.

So you see that Anna Mary has left a legacy and will live on through her influence on this family.
