Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Anna Padilla Baca of Artesia.
Mrs. Baca, 101, passed away on July 19, 2017 in Artesia, NM.
Fr. Jorge Vargas will officiate at the service with burial to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Pallbearers are Mark Salgado, Mike Lara, John Baca IV, Patrick Gonzales, Matthew Hernandez and Steven Otero. Honorary pallbearers are Jerome Gonzales, Armando Baca, Cilio Hernandez, Elijah Gallegos, Jason Villalobos and Thomas Villalobos.
There will be visitation on Friday, July 21 at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m..
Anna was born on September 15, 1915 in Arabela, NM; the daughter of Rafael and Estanislada (Arguello) Padilla. On December 11, 1931 she married Juan Cordova Baca in Roswell, NM. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1990.
Anna was a long time resident of Artesia, moving here in 1929 from Roswell. She was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Grace, Apostalado, Cursillistas, and the San Jose Committee. She was a volunteer at the Meal Site and at Head Start.
She was self-educated, teaching herself how to read, write and speak English and Spanish. She competed in the Senior Olympics up until the age of 90. Anna still lived in the adobe house that her husband built in 1929.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, 4 sisters, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Survivors include her sons Reuben Baca and Johnny Baca of Artesia; daughters Petrita Baca of Rio Rancho, NM, Isabel Acosta of Artesia, Helen Salgado of Las Cruces, NM and Erlinda Briseno of Artesia; sister Valentina Mendoza of Roswell; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
