Anita Gunderson-May

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at the First United Methodist Church for Mrs. Anita D. Gunderson-May of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. May, 72, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her home.

Russ Panzer will officiate at the services. Cremation is under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Anita was born December 20, 1943 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Duard Kenneth Coffman and Mildred (Pounds) Coffman.

She was a longtime Artesia resident after moving here in 1967 from Texas. On August 12, 1968 she married John Ellis Gunderson in Midland, Texas. Then on May 11, 2008 she married Clifton May in Artesia.

Anita was a teacher with the Artesia Public Schools System for over 35 years and retired in 2006. She taught at the High School and then at the Jr. High School. After retirement she enjoyed playing Bridge twice a week at the Artesia Senior Citizen Center with her friends. Anita also loved to spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband Clifton May of the family home; daughter Jana Gunderson of Artesia; sons Eric Gunderson and wife Denise of Artesia and William Tatom May of Chandler, AZ; sister Cheryl Hudgens of Denton, Texas; brother Kenny Coffman of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Jason Bloomer of Las Cruces, N.M., Shelby Banda of Lubbock, Texas, Alex Carter of Truth of Consequences, N.M., Jake Craft and Trey Craft of Artesia, and Sadie May of Gilbert, AZ; and a great-granddaughter Ainsley Banda.
