Alton Posey

Graveside Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23 at the Upper Hope Cemetery for Alton J. Posey of Hope, N.M.

Mr. Posey, 84, passed away on September 17, 2016 at his home.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Powell, Will Crockett, Richie Crockett, John Stubbs, Ricky Wright and Mike Goss.

Alton was born on February 12, 1932 in Tularosa, NM; the son of Alton Eldo Posey and Dona (Potter) Posey. On June 22, 1953 he married Carol Munson in Carlsbad, NM. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother. On April 7, 2009 he married Stephanie Witkowski in Sacramento, N.M.

Alton served in the United States Army as a young man and fought in the Korean War. He was the recipient of 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He worked at Navajo Refinery for 27 years. He lived in Artesia until he retired then moved to his "house in the hills" to hunt and fish, where he ran his dozer and backhoe service. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Hope "Social Club". He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing poker.

Survivors include his wife Stephanie Posey of Hope; son Marty Posey and his wife Elena of Hope; grandchildren Jessica Posey, Amanda Beltran and Nicholas Posey; great-grandchildren Taylor and Ariana Beltran.
