Althea Gibson

Services are scheduled at 10:30 AM Saturday, Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church Artesia, N.M., for Althea Nell Gibson, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Mrs. Gibson died Thursday, December 23, 2013 at her home.

Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be J.D. Morris, Danny Madrid, Dylan Drake, Stephen Drake, Ron Burnum, and Cody Martin.

Althea was born December 30, 1933 in Stonewall County, Texas the daughter of Solon Debs Johnson and Irma Elaine Kingery Johnson. She came to Artesia in 1959 from Pecos, Texas and moved to Albuquerque in 1974.

On Oct. 10, 1950 she was married to Jack Gordon Gibson in Sagerton, Texas.

She owned and operated Silverbird Jewelry in Albuquerque and was a housewife. She was a member of Los Alton Christian Church in Albuquerque, and Beta Sigma Pi Sorority. She was homeroom mother for each of her kids and a P.T.A. officer.She was also a Girl Scout leader and on the state board of Boy Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents Solon and Irma Johnson and by two sisters.

Survivors include her husband Jack Gibson of of the family home children Jeff Gibson and wife Bonny, Larraine Drake and husband Chalk, DeNette Wallace and husband Jerry, Althea Lamoureux and husband James grandchildren Tori and Derek Brumfield, Mandy and Ron Burnum, J.D. and Kodi Morris, Tanisha and Danny Madrid, Dylan Drake, Leslie Lybarger, Stephen Drake, and Ariel Lybarger 6 greatgrandchildren.
