Alta Walker

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for Alta Margaret Walker, 1608 W. Bullock Ave., Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Walker, 91, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Artesia.

Doug Neel will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday .

Alta was born December 12, 1921 in Mangum, Oklahoma the daughter of William Frank Martin and Martha Frances Randall Martin.

On Oct. 14, 1937 she was married to J.C. Walker in Plainview, Texas. She came to Artesia in 1942 from Oklahoma. He preceded her in death June 1997.

She was a cafeteria supervisor at Artesia Public Schools for 35 years, and a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, past Grand Matron for the Artesia Rebakah Lodge, honorary member of the Artesia F.F.A. Chapter, and past Grand Marshall for the Homecoming Parade.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers Marvin Martin, Junior Martin, Willie Martin and Jimmy Martin, 3 sisters Eva Holt, Billie Laman, and Effie Montgomery, 4 sonsinlaw Travis Scott, Dwight Youtsey, Larry Parker and Bobby Gist.

Survivors include son Bobby Frank Walker of Artesia daughters Martha Morgan and husband Ed of Brownfield, Texas, Wanda Scott of Artesia, Vesta Youtsey of Artesia, and Treva Hawk and husband Pete of Nogal, NM 12 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren, and numerous greatgreatgrandchildren.
