Alicia or Calicha, as she was know to her family and friends, was born on October 23, 1934 in Janos, Chihuahua Mexico to Emilio Rodriguez and Juana Sandoval. On October 1st, 1951 Alicia married the love of her life, Alfredo Chavez and the adventure began. Together they raised eight children, claimed one as their own, and 19 grandchildren.
Alicia arrived in Artesia in 2003, after having ties to the surrounding ranches through her husband who worked his whole life as a ranchhand. She built a life for herself in Artesia, being a devout Catholic and joining Our Lady of Grace Church and "adopting" grandchildren at every party she attended.
Alicia lived a long, joy-filled life and was the life of the party. Often leaving her dancing partners exhausted long before she even broke a sweat. Her free spirit and humor will be missed.
Alicia is preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo Chavez, her parents, four siblings, her grandchildren, Lizeth Santiesteban Chavez and Jaime Chavez; and a great grandchild, Jacob Lopez Santiesteban.
