Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Alfred J. Mermis, Jr. of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Mermis, 79, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at his home.
James Arnold will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anthony S. Martin, Timothy R. Martin, Benjamin Mermis, James G. Arnold, Bill F. Runyan, and Timothy Posey. Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers and friends.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Alfred was born May 20, 1936 in Walker, Kansas; the son of Alfred J. Mermis and Clara B (Scheck) Mermis.
He served his country in the United States Army.
On Aug.18, 1962 he was married to Virginia Mae Padilla in Albuquerque, N.M. They came to Artesia in 1977 from Texas.
Alfred was a welder. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator, CDL driver, and had retired from TNT Backhoe Services. He was an avid outdoorsman including camping and fishing, he loved to travel and spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mom Claudia T. Gable-Mermis.
Survivors include his wife Virginia Mae Mermis of the family home; daughters Therese Mae Mermis of Artesia, Karen Martin and husband Ray of Artesia, and Cheryl Bonilla and husband Michael of Rio Rancho, N.M.; son Mark A. Mermis, Sr. of Gillette, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
