Services are scheduled at 2:00 PM Friday, March 22 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Alexandra Rodrigues Powell, 1116 W. Washington Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Powell, 59, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at her home. Father Clemente Comesky will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Don Willard, Gary Ryback, Tommy Powell, David Bueno, Steve Martinez and Carlos Charlie Martinez. All nephews and nieces have been designated as honorary pallbearers. A Rosary service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Mrs. Powell was born March 22, 1942 in Carlsbad, New Mexico; the daughter of Guillermo Martinez and Leonarda Lopez Martinez. On July 4, 1992 she was married to Donny C. Powell in Artesia. She was a registered nurse and was currently Health Facility Compliance Officer for the New Mexico Department of Health. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; and was active in numerous nursing related organizations and achievements. She was preceded in death by brothers Juan Martinez, Pedro Martinez and David Martinez; and by a sister Ramona Alvarez. Survivors include her husband Donny Powell of the family home; daughters Deana Powell Pennington of Artesia and Corrie Powell Tucker of Austin, Texas; sisters Epifiania Duran of Bosque Farms, N.M., Manuela Nellie Canales and Maria Hernandez of Artesia; brothers Gil Martinez and Cepriano Martinez both of Artesia; grandchildren Nicholas Gage Simer, Katelin Michelle Pennington and Riley Matthew Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
