A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 , 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Agricola "Betty" Cadena Martinez of Artesia, New Mexico. The rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Martinez, 89, died May 16, 2020 at her home in Artesia.
Fr. Francis Lazer will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Betty was born March 17, 1931 in Presidio TX; the daughter of Manuel Cadena and Consuelo Ramirez Cadena. On April 15, 1957 she was married to Luis Martinez in Roswell, N.M. She was a longtime resident of Artesia.
Betty was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the 3rd Order of St. Francis and the Cursillistas. She worked in food service in Las Cruces, Moore's Bakery in Artesia, and was a dietician at theGood Samaritan Center in Artesia for several years. She loved to cook and bake, travel the southwest to visit friends, and she loved collecting recipes. One of her most favorite things was to cook a big meal for her friends on New Year's Eve.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Trinidad Orosco, Blandina Rubio, and Petra Cadena; brother Domingo Cadena; brothers-in-law Miguel Orosco, Tony Rubio, and Osvaldo Vasquez.
Survivors include her husband Luis of Artesia; daughters Virginia Oros-Lopez of Albuquerque, N.M. and Sylvia Ann Perez and husband Joe of Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother Jesus Cadena of Ruidoso, N.M.; a sister Berena Vasquez of Goodyear, Arizona; grandchildren Amanda Marie Lopez and Gabriel Luis Perez; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice of Carlsbad, Fr. Francis Lazer, and Jane Orosco for their loving care of Betty.
