Abel Rodriguez

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Church of God for Abel Gonzalez Rodriguez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Rodriguez, 73, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at his home.

Pastor Michael Chase will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Rodriguez, Dennis Ybarra, II., Nicholas Rodriguez, Isaac Rodriguez, Jeremiah Rodriguez, and Josue Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Abraham Munoz, and Steven Rodriguez.

Visitation will be at the Church of God Sunday beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Abel was born January 14, 1940 in Artesia, New Mexico the son of Faustino Rodriguez and Antonia Lopez Rodriguez. He was a lifelong resident of Artesia.

On March 6, 1960 he was married to Lydia Melendrez in Carlsbad, N.M.

Abel was a carpenter and a member of the Church of God. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved selling snowcones and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents brother Freddie Olguin greatgranddaughters Jada and Nayari Ixchel.

Survivors include his wife Lydia Rodriguez of the family home daughters Lorina Ruiz and husband Lupe of Carlsbad, Viola Aguilar of Albuquerque, N.M., Rosemary Martinez and husband Cornelio of Hobbs, N.M., and Linda Longoria of Carlsbad sons Abel Rodriguez, Jr. and wife Lisa of Artesia, and Bobby Rodriguez and wife Jennifer of Lubbock, Texas sister Elfida Sanchez of Artesia brothers Eliseo Olguin of Las Cruces, N.M., and Robert Olguin of Artesia stepbrothers Lonnie Rodriguez of Artesia, and Clyde Rodriguez of Artesia 23 grandchildren and 32 greatgrandchildren.
