Abbie Terry

Services are scheduled at 10.00 A.M. Tuesday, May 18, at First United Methodist Church in Artesia, N.M. for longtime Artesia area resident Abbie Durand Terry of Roswell, New Mexico. Mrs. Terry, 89, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Roswell. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be all care givers of the Rose Garden at La Villa Care Center in Roswell. Mrs. Terry was born September 5, 1914 in Dexter, New Mexico; the daughter of Roger Henry Durand and Olive Harshey Durand. She served in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II. On October 12, 1947 she was married to J. J. Judal Terry in Artesia. He preceded her in death January 11, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an aunt Frances Harshey Pearson; and by cousins Raymond Pearson and Richard Harshey. She was a homemaker and had worked as a secretary for Guy Chevrolet Company. She and her husband farmed in the Cottonwood area for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for several years; and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter J, and the Bridge Club. Survivors include sister-in-law Tommie Terry Burnett and husband Clyde of Roswell; and numerous nieces and nephews including William J. Gray and wife LaNette of Artesia, Mike Burnett and wife Kathy of Alexandria, Virginia, Abbie Hazelwood of Bloomfield, N.M., Joe Clayton and wife Judy of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Linda Nelson of Guthrie, Okla., Jack Terry and wife Joyce of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linder Lee Seal and husband Darrell of Englewood, Colo., Terry Jane Ritchie and husband Jim of Alto, N.M., Glenelle Butler and husband Gene of Albuquerque, N.M., Exa Cunningham and husband Ken of Duvol, Okla., Tom Wardlaw and wife Ruth of Dallas, Texas, Ellen Law and husband John of Gainsville, Ga., and Robert Wardlaw and wife Martha of La Fayette, Ga. Also surviving are cousins Abbie Pearson Jeter and husband Glenn of Albuquerque, Earlene Durand Smith of Dexter, Joe Davis Durand and wife Martha of Dexter, Eileen Durand of Albuquerque, Clarence Harshey and wife Judy of Hagerman, N.M., and Lloyd Harshey and wife Adeline of Alamogordo, N.M. Abbie will be remembered by her loved ones for her vibrant laugh and appreciation of the beauty around her. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Artesia, NM 88211.
